Amanda J. Crawford is an assistant professor of journalism at the University of Connecticut where she teaches journalism law and ethics. A veteran journalist who previously worked for Bloomberg News, The Arizona Republic and The Baltimore Sun, Crawford's scholarly focus is on the role of journalists in democracy. Her current research focuses on misinformation and mass shooting denialism, including the media’s role in perpetuating conspiracy theories. Professor Crawford's writing has been published by many other media outlets and literary journals, including The Chronicle of Higher Education, National Geographic, People, Businessweek and Creative Nonfiction. Prior to joining UConn, she held faculty appointments at Western Kentucky University and Arizona State University. She was a 2020-21 fellow with the UConn Humanities Institute to research the fight against misinformation after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
